EDTC 810 Statistics for Educational Research
Candidates will develop competence in applying, synthesizing, and evaluating statistics from sources including dissertation, journals, technical reports, and Web sites. With an emphasis on the scholarship of teaching, candidates will move from basic to context-driven statistics, applying the fundamental concepts and procedures of descriptive and inferential statistics to real-world applications.

Assignment 1: Methods Literature Review
· Students select 5 scholarly peer-reviewed journal articles in the area of interest and write an analysis of the methods using these works.
· Identify the research methodologies used by the authors of the 5 articles. Compare and contrast the similarities/differences among methods used in the articles, making sure to discuss participants, sample size, variables, data collection instrument, data analysis technique to be employed (preferably using inferential statistics or a mixed-methods approach), and validity & generalizability.

Assignment 2: Analysis of the Data/Findings Review
· Use the same 5 scholarly peer-reviewed journal articles from the Methods Literature Review (above).
· Identify the major findings by the authors of the 5 articles. Discuss their findings based on their data collection methods and analysis techniques used (quantitatively using inferential statistics and mixed methods approaches). Show how their findings carefully link back to their research & subsidiary question(s). Relate your response to what you have been learning in this course about inferential statistics.

Final Project
Final Assessment:
Students are required to complete the final assessment for this course. It will be based on weekly learning modules 9-13.

Value of Study Presentation: Using a PowerPoint presentation
o Share your research problem
o The significance of your research problem
o Share your specific research question
o Why and how existing research looks at it
o Present your methodology section (how did you conduct survey?) (Support with literature)
o Present your data analysis procedures (Support with literature)
